Competitive gaming has fast become one of the most profitable hobbies in town. And we’re not only talking about PC games in general. Gamers are now investing their money into gaming peripherals to synergise with their gaming prowess. Of the many manufacturers around, A4Tech has provided affordable products yet not lacking quality, the X7-G700 keyboard.
The G700 is slim and lightweight. It is equipped with a handle for portability; gamers will be able to bring the G700 everywhere easily for tournaments. Among the other obvious features are the orange keys covered by rubber grips; typically the W,S,A,D keys as well as the arrow keys. Gamers will have the option of using normal keys instead of the rubber gripped ones. A unique feature that A4Tech has included, is the ability to swap the functions of the WASD keys with the arrow keys for convenience sake. This can be done by pressing the S button on the top right located above the numpad. At the same time, the Caps Lock key will swap with Ctrl key for easier access. A4Tech has also placed several keys close to the WASD keys, namely the Home, End and Page Up keys as they are used often in most games.
In term of ergonomics, the keyboard provide a rest area for the palms which is comfortable. One gripe we had about the keyboard is that it’s too flat; the stand doesn’t allow users to raise the keyboard higher. A4Tech also claims that the keyboard has a waterproof design, which we weren’t inclined to prove.
Overall, we had no complaints when playing games with the X7 G-700. The keys felt really easy to press and the extra Home, End and Page Up keys were quite useful, especially on FPS games. And thankfully, the price tag isn’t jaw dropper. Budget gamers should consider the X7 G-700 should they need a gaming keyboard.
