The iPod Nano gets another redesign with the new 4th Generation model. This latest models goes back to the 2nd generation vertical form factor instead of the squarish shape of the last generation. It does, however, retain the larger screen and video capabilities from the iPod Nano 3rd-gen. Being vertical, you’d have to rotate the iPod sideways to correctly view videos. But the built-in accelerometer makes short work of rotating the screen accordingly. When playing music, rotating the iPod Nano also automatically brings up the Cover View. While technically the same dimensions as the 2nd-gen Nano, the new iPod Nano has an aerodynamic curved body that makes the sides feel even thinner. The screen cover also get curved, but doesn’t effect the actual LCD.

Beside the auto-rotating feature, the new iPod Nano also gets shake-shuffling to randomize your track. Scrolling and navigating is superbly smooth, with even the transitions to Cover View having no skips or stutters. The final new feature is the Genius function that you might have noticed from the latest iTunes. Genius basically creates playlists for you based on what you’re currently listening to, apparently being able to recognize the style and tempo of the music.
The new iPods not only come with a new design, but also new pricing. The new dollar-per-gig ratios make iPods more affordable than ever, with capacities up to 16GB.
