Since SSD became mainstream, plenty of people buy it just to run their operating system and programs that they use very often. We can’t blame these people because in our opinion, this is by far the most correct way to use Solid State Drive, not to mention its price. An idea to combine both SSD and normal HDD drive came up, creating a hybrid drive and this month, we have the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB.

Western Digital knows their stuff. Their external hard drive line speaks for themselves in design and reliability. The new My Passport Studio is no different.
With its all white exterior, it fits well with the Apple family. The sleek design is very inviting for anyone to use it. An additional feature is the e-ink display at the front of the case itself. It tells users at a glance the capacity of the drive at any given time, without the need to power the drive up, thanks to the e-ink technology.

When one look back it truly is amazing to see how technology has grown rapidly in the past two decades or so, especially that relating to computers. Storage capacity of today’s standard hard drive has grown quickly and prices even coming down quickly. For the same price, what you can get today may have 3 times or more the storage capacity compared to a few years back.

Hard disk have been the staple storage devices for desktop and notebook PCs for God knows how long, and they’ve served us well. For the most part, we’ve seen improvements in transfer and read/write speeds, and capacities. Although we’ve been content with the enhancements, other factors like longevity, noise, portability and endurance became issues of concern due to the popularity of the notebook market and the gaming community. For this reason the development of Solid-State-Disks (SSD) began some time back and now we’re seeing it bear fruit. Intel sent over our very first SSD in the form of X25-M.
