The new C3 2.1 speaker system is an upgrade of Edifier’s C2 system. The C-series speakers represent the top of the line for Edifier’s 2.1 systems.
The Edifier C3 consists of two satellite boxes and a subwoofer cabinet provided by a separate amplifier unit. This amplifier has quite a bit of heft and is rated for 48 watts RMS, divided as 8W per satellite and 30W for the subwoofer. Each sattelite speaker features individual tweeter and mid-range drivers. The subwoofer is quite deserving of its name, with a respectable 8-inch driver housed in a wooden cabinet. The individual drivers and large subwoofer are clear indications that the Edifier C3 is a premium product, unlike most computer speakers that utilize a single ‘full range’ driver for everything - and don’t get me started on ’subwoofer’ below 6-inches.The amplifier unit houses a big lighted volume knob and an LED numerical display. Three more tiny buttons along one edge are for selecting the source the audio source, bass/treble settings and power. The Edifier C3 has two auxiliary inputs on the front and back panels.
Without any tweaking at all, the Edifier C3 sounded brilliant out of the box. From the 13mm silk tweeters to the 8-inch woofer, a fairly wide range of sound was reproduced with ease. Vocals cut clear over full middle, while the bass managed to provide lots of boom without losing form even at higher levels. The Edifier C3 is also equipped with a wireless remote for added convenience.
