Logitech’s G series of gaming devices have been around some time; long enough for them to have a V2 for the G15 keyboard. The earlier model had 18 programmable buttons (for 54 different macros), a tilting LCD plus minor button rearanggements. The new G15 has six programmable (up to 18 macros or keystrokes) but is slightly smaller which is good, as not everyone has a huge table on which place their keyboard.
Logitech has kept (and improved on in some cases) the good aspects of the original keyboard, namely the backlighting, key travel, USB port and build quality. Although the LCD is smaller and doesn’t tilt, it is still very readable under any lighting conditions. The orange colored backlight (it used to be blue) is also easy on the eyes and isn’t glaring enough to disrupt your gaming sessions. Unlike the Razer Lycosa keyboard’s backlighting which made the keys difficult to see if viewed from an angle, the G15 had no such problems. In this respect, I’d rate it equal to the Saitek Cyborg.
The G15’s key travel is good and generally solid. The detachable wrist rest isn’t really necessary but the two USB 2.0 ports sure came in handy. Mice and other low-power devices are generally okay, but not portable hard disks. The LCD has several presets such as clock, stopwatch/countdown and most importantly, information on the game you’re running. The list of supported games is growing all the time, so most of the latest titles are bound to be supported. In World of Warcraft, gamers will be able to see their stats, ammo and equipment durability amongst other info.
The configuration software is super easy to use, unlike the Cyborg’s. Great build quality, user-friendly features and good performance are the hallmarks of the G15. If you’re looking for a great all-rounder, this is it. That is, if the price tag doesn’t scare you off first.
