When the term ‘computer speakers’ were first used, they were nothing more than cheap plastic noisemakers. For the most part, there was nothing computerized about computer speakers, who’s only purpose was to amplify an analogue signal from a PC or any other source.
Logitech’s Z-10 however, is a USB speaker system. It is connected to your PC via a single USB cable and becomes an actual USB device. Audio is then routed directly to
the USB audio device, which is in fact the speakers themselves. While this offers the convenience of a single cable, it also bypasses any audio hardware you may already have and requires a compatible USB host (Windows).

The benefit of the Logitech Z-10, however, is that it can pass both audio and data to the speakers. A backlit LCD display on the Logitech Z-10 shows ID3 track titles, time/date and even system CPU/MEM utilization. Below the display is a set of touch-buttons that are completely flush with the speaker’s face. Here you will find the controls for the speaker’s setting as well as track control for supported Windows player. These include iTunes, Winamp and Windows Media Player.
For a 2.0 desktop system, the Logitech Z-10 produces a surprisingly rich sound with ample volume. Each speaker consists of a two-way system with bass ports out the back. In our tests, we got some real decent bass notes from the smallish speakers, while the tweeters balanced the range with clear highs.
The Logitech Z-10 also supports a standard 3.5mm input as an auxiliary source, and has a headphone jack on the side. The USB-simplicity and stylish touch controls offer an acctractive package on top of the excellent performance of the Logitech Z-10 Interactive Speakers.
