It is perhaps easiest to say that the Sony Ericsson T707 is made with ‘glamour’ in mind. Everything about it from design to functionality seems to entertain the idea of color and gloss, but take that away and you’ll only have a regular flip-phone in hand.
The review unit we had came in Lucid Blue, which looks good. At the front cover is an LCD display. At the front cover is an LCD display. Flip it open and you’ll find a 2.2 inch display, and a set of soft-key numbers plus a round directional pad that compliments the design. It’s a nice looking phone, but simple. The star of the phone however doesn’t shine until you get a call.
The T707 lets you assign unique, pulsating light effects to your specified contacts, so that when a call comes, the cover of the phone lights up. The effects are psychedelic, and it looks good in the dark. If you like to personalise your contacts ID, it adds a little variety, but you’ll soon realise that there aren’t enough effects to go around.
One problem with flip-phones is that it is often troublesome to have to flip open your phone to mute the ringing or snooze the alarm. The T707 solves that by implementing a gesture control, so you can silent your phone by swiping your hand across the cover. It works fine on the table, but you still can’t do anything in your pocket.
Other features include a TrackID options that allows you to track the title, artist and album of the song playing on the phone, which is free and easy to use. There’s good Internet connectivity, and you can stream videos and acces PlayNow to purchase music and themes. Our biggest gripe, however, is its built-in 3.2 megapixels camera. The performance is sub-par, and the picture quality is merely decent at best. It’s not a Cybershot phone, yes, but it deserves better.
The T707 is merely a pretty phone. If you want the additional personalization options or simply enjoy psychedelic light shows, you couldn’t go wrong with it. Sadly, there aren’t enough effects, and don’t expect more than a decent phone with decent functionalities.
