Epson is giving us a reason to like them even more. The Stylus Office T40W is one of the Epson’s newest inkjet printers with networking capabilities. Built in a black glossy case, the T40W has a small foot print of about one and a half piece of A4 papers.
The top part of the printer is where the paper goes in, while the prints come out in front. The T40W’s paper tray is one of the most extensible ones we have seen. It can extend five phases! It gives you the liberty to adjust the footprint of the printer, making it a space saver. There are five buttons on top of the printer, each with its own icon depicting its function.
The T40W has a rated print speed of 38ppm draft in both monochrome and color. Our tests showed that the printer can only print at about 19ppm in draft mode, half what Epson claimed. On normal mode, the printer achieved a print speed of 15ppm, slightly slower than draft mode but is printed a lot more high quality. Personally, we never used Draft mode for printing and 15ppm is not too shabby.
The T40W also has the ability to print borderless pictures and in our test, a photo printed on an A4 page took about 98 seconds in Photo Quality. Printing quality was really a good and we were impressed.
The main feature of the T40W is that it is network capable. You can use the usual Ethernet cable, connect it to your router and print as a remote printer or you can go the wireless way of using its WLAN capability. Setting up the printer using WLAN was a piece of cake as the user manual that came with the printer described it clear enough. In our test, there were practically no lags at all and it was like printing using the USB cable.
One thing we didn’t like about The T40W was that it operates very loudly. Although this is nothing major but we really hope to have a quieter machine.
