It’s been a while since we’ve got our hands on a Sony Ericsson flip-phone, seeing that that they have been a bit quite in that department for a while. The new Z770i introduces 3G high speed data to the Z-series in a slim and handy mobile. The phone fits very nicely in your hand and features a silver/metal finish throughout. With the flip closed, you will find a small mirrored display on the front that informs you of any incoming calls or messages when necessary. Above this is a 2-megapixel pinhole camera for quick shots. Inside, the top flip holds an excellent 240×320 color LCD. Despite having 3G, the Z770i doesn’t have a second inner camera for video calls. The keypad on the lower flip is of the popular ‘etched surface’ type popularized by the Motorola RAZR ages ago. The net result of the design aspects make the Z770i a very clean and elegant design.
The Z770i features the media portal interface seen in Sony Ericsson recent releases. This lets you view your music, photos and video from one place. Despite the lack of a Walkman badge, the Z770i plays media just as well and even comes with FM radio. There is 32MB of built-in memory on the phone, but this can be extended thanks to the M2 slot. Like all Sony Ericsson phones, audio quality is excellent, assuming you have good headphones. Bluetooth lets you stream your music to a compatible wireless headset as well.
To round off the phone, the Z770i also comes loaded with Google Maps, and uses GSM triangulation instead of actual GPS. You will also find a good collection of organizer tools built-in. While the Z770i doesn’t excel in any one particular area, it is a very well rounded phone in a very attractive slim profile.
