The Logitech Z-5 2.0 speaker system stands commandingly tall and vertically oriented. Instead of the drivers blaring out directly in front of you, the Z-5 incorporates drivers at both the front and back panels of the speakers, thus achieving an omnidirectionally sound. It comes bundled with a stereo mini-jack input as well.
Ergonomics wise, the design is both user and space friendly. Setting up the Z-5 was really easy and all it took was a couple of seconds to connect the USB cable to the computer. Using the wireless remote control was a breeze, it features the standard buttons coupled with a unique button that, after installing the provided software, allows you to immediately start up your preferred music platform, be it iTunes or Windows Media Player.
As mentioned earlier, the Z-5 projects its sound omnidirectly and does have pretty decent sounding audio. It produces reasonable mid range frequencies especially when winding up song that doesn’t require a low bass end. However, placing it with a wall right behind it seems to make the bass sounds much more solid and amplified rather than placing it at an open space. Another misgiving is when you pump the volume up, it is instantly noticeable that the Z-5 isn’t able to handle the swell with faint clippings being heard.
But all in all, I was pleasantly surprised with what the Z-5 had to offer. For those who are looking for a speaker to blast without compromising the sound quality, you might want to look elsewhere. As a desktop speaker however, it certainly gets the job done with its decent sound quality and simple usage.
