At a glance, the SonicGear Xanadu X3 looks like any of your typical 2.1 multimedia speaker; a black wooden-like subwoofer and two satellite speakers. However, when inspected closer you’d soon realize that you are actually viewing the world’s first touch screen 2.1 multimedia speakers.
For starters, the speaker has a total power of 42W; the Subwoofer has a rate of 24W whereas the satellite speakers rate 9W each. The subwoofer driver is a 4” High excursion with frequency response of 20HZ to 20 KHz.
The main feature of the Xanadu X3 would be its touch screen controls. Users get to control the volume, treble and bass directly from the touchscreen panel located on the top of the right satellite speaker. An on/off button is located on the top of the speaker whereas the subwoofer’s power switch is located at its lower left back.
In terms of audio quality, the Xanadu X3 performs great. The treble and bass can be tweaked from the speakers and are of midrange quality. Not bad for playing songs that has bass.
However, the speakers did pose some minor setbacks. For example; the speakers require a 6 second delay to “prepare” itself before any audio is audible when turned on. Besides that, the volume level shown on the speaker is also confusing and inaccurate as there are no units on it. Other than that, the satellite speakers seemed oversized as a lift of the speakers suggests that most of it is hollow unnecessary space.
Overall, the Xanadu X3 serves its purpose well as speaker but fail to distinguish it apart despite being the world’s first touchscreen speaker. A decent quality speaker that produces good audio, the Xanadu X3 is a good speaker with the touchscreen as a bonus feature.
