The trends driving flash drives nowadays include bigger storage capacilities, smaller size and falling costs, making them so appealing as a portable storage medium. Know anybody who doesn’t own one? Exactly. The 115w has a capacity of 4GB and is tiny! Even smaller than an average-sized thumb. It leaves out those threesome caps that always seem to go missing like the odd sock in a drawer and uses a swing design instead. This sleek looking flash drive from HP is competing in a market dominated by names that are more familiar with flash storage such as Kingston.
So how does it hold up? What do the stat say? HDTach put its random access speed at 0.4ms and an average read speed of 26.8MB per second with CPU utilization at just 10%. Burst speed stands at 22.8MB per second. For those who prefer to read something more substantial, we managed to copy a few files totalling 1GB in about two minutes tend seconds.
Some flash drives in the market boast security features such as biometrics and encryption and the 115w will lose out on these terms. But for a no-frills flash drive, the v115w fits right in with most current flash drives nowadays. All in all, not too shabby from a brand that we more readily associate with desktops and laptops.
