As high definition movies are readily available now, manufacturers have designed humonguous monitors as large as 28 inches to enable people to view them in full HD. Viewsonic, however, has managed to squeeze it all into a 19-inch monitor otherwise known as the VX1940W.
The Viewsonic VX1940W os not as large as standard 19-inch monitors. Rather, it is designed with a 16:10 aspect ratio in mind, giving you that widescreen look. Viewsonic always chose to go with simplicity and not some outrageous design; the monitor is black all round except for its silver bezel. Carrying it around doesn’t require much effort as the VX1940W weighs at only 4.6kg. And since it wide, the force of the weight is distributed evenly, allowing you to hold it with ease. The 19-inch monitor stand firmly with the stand fixed. However, the height cannot be adjusted. You can only tilt it, so tall people might find it unappealing.
The Viewsonic VX1940W has a really fast response time of 2 ms (gray-to-gray), and a high contrast ratio of 1000:1 on static mode and 3000:1 on dynamic mode. When dynamic mode is on, the monitor automatically configures the contrast of the screen depending on what you’re viewing. An interesting feature, but irritating when it sets the contrast level too low. The optimal resolution it can support is 1680 x 1050, just 30 pixels short of full HD. Also, the LCD screen’s surface is designed to be anti-glare, reducing stress on the eyes.
Hooking the Viewsonic VX1940W was effortless. On the back, there was nothing else but a DVI and D-sub port. There was no HDMI support which is somewhat of a let down as the main point was its ability to play HD movies. Also, there isn’t an S-Video port, so you can forget about connecting your game consoles or DVD players. The OSD (On-Screen Display) is easy to navigate and the controls are simple enough to understand.
Judging by the ports available, the Viewsonic VX1940W was meant for the PC only. The lack of HDMI and S-Video ports limits its full potential in terms of high definition viewing. Nonetheless, the monitor is portable and easy to operate, and its quality is quite good. For those who are on the PC most of the time, this should suit your liking.
